Rometha's Story

Rometha Meme 3-page-001.jpg

Rometha Gilmore is the one and only Mrs. Educator. As a Black woman in leadership, her journey in public education began in Marion County Public Schools. Rometha is a zealous motivational speaker, educational consultant, advocate, and mentor to adolescent girls and women. Her professional tenure within public education has been well-developed over the past two decades. Mrs. Educator has stood on the frontlines of education as a classroom teacher, dean of students, later transitioning into the role of an assistant principal.

Although Rometha loves the impacts she has made in her educational career, her experiences within public education can be likened to modern-day plantations in desperate need of modern-day emancipation.  Mrs. Educator understands sustainable change will not happen until courageous leaders and visionaries (of all races) face the hard truth that not all students, teachers, administrators, and schools are created equal.

Rometha earned a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from St. Leo University. She also earned a Master’s degree in educational leadership from American College of Education.

As a passionate athlete and teenage mother, who was relentless about her success, Mrs. Educator knows first-hand how crucial it is to help students, particularly girls, discover and own their self-worth at an early age.

In 2021, Rometha launched Girls on the Rise™, an organization that provides additional support to Black and Brown girls grades 5th and higher. Girls enrolled in the program receive additional academic, cultural, emotional, and social support. Her goal is to enrich and strengthen the whole girl as she discovers her divine self-worth and ultimate purpose.  Though she may never fully understand what her grandmothers or her mama had to endure as black women, she understands firsthand that she must remain resilient in all walks of life and that same resiliency must be instilled in the young girls she mentors.

When Mrs. Educator isn’t directing and advising students and parents, she is facilitating trainings, educating those in her circle/colleagues about the importance of ensuring education is inclusive and equitable. Rometha believes this starts with active parenting followed by strategic improvements to the educational system to ensure education is progressing with society.

Currently, Rometha resides in Ocala, Fl. with her husband and best friend who was also her high-school sweetheart, Jamie Sr. Together they have three sons, Eddie, Jamie Jr., and Jyron, three grandchildren and one goddaughter. Her family is the center of her happiness and the reason she advocates for all students as well as herself and colleagues.  She enjoys quiet time with God, serving alongside her husband in ministry, shopping, sewing, line dancing, vacationing, and hanging out with her family in the backyard.

Mrs. Educator’s mantra is simple, if we do not address crumbling family structures, communities, and the educational system, we will continue to hang ourselves– and she refuses to stand by and watch it happen!

Join Rometha on her mission to not only loose the nooses of society but burn them as she commits to reengineering a new methodology for public education.
